Advocacy groups and community members are planning to rally Saturday morning at the Home Depot on Town Center Parkway in Santee, joining similar demonstrations at more than a dozen locations across San Diego County to call on the home improvement retailer to take action against immigration enforcement operations on its properties.
The rallies, organized under the banner "ICE Out of Home Depot," are scheduled for Saturday, February 28. The Santee location at 255 Town Center Pkwy is set for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Organizers describe the events as non-partisan and say participants include Indivisible chapters and other civic advocacy groups.
Organizers say ICE agents have targeted day laborers in Home Depot parking lots across the country, detaining workers who congregate at the stores seeking employment. Advocates are calling the situation a growing human rights crisis and are urging Home Depot's corporate leadership to publicly condemn ICE raids on company property, prohibit federal immigration enforcement from using its parking lots to target day laborers, and commit to making its stores safe and welcoming spaces for all people, regardless of immigration status.
The Santee demonstration is one of three East County stops on Saturday. Rallies are also planned at the Home Depot in El Cajon at 298 Fletcher Pkwy from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and in Lemon Grove at 7530 Broadway from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Organizers warn that continued corporate silence risks eroding community trust and consumer support.
