Student Filmmakers Take the Stage at GUHSD Film Festival This Friday — Admission Is Free

East County students who spent months behind the camera get their moment in the spotlight this Friday when the Grossmont Union High School District holds its annual Film Festival at El Cajon Valley High School.

The showcase runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 6 at the El Cajon Valley High School Event Center, located at 1035 E. Madison Ave. in El Cajon. Admission is free and open to all community members — not just families of the student filmmakers.

The event features original works from students enrolled in the Career Technical Education Arts, Media & Entertainment (AME) pathway at GUHSD. Projects range from narrative short films to animation, all scripted, filmed, and edited by the students themselves.

GUHSD describes the festival as more than a screening — it's a celebration of technical skill and artistic storytelling. The AME sector is the largest Career Technical Education sector in California and a major driver of the state's Creative Economy, which supports more than 2.6 million jobs statewide.

For those who want a preview, past student films are available on the official GUHSD Film Fest YouTube channel at youtube.com/@guhsdfilmfest652. The festival is a chance for East County families to support young local talent heading into careers in one of the region's most competitive industries.
