Grossmont High School spring teams are moving into the final stretch of the season with several programs chasing league and CIF goals, according to Times of San Diego.
The Foothillers’ baseball team was 8-8 heading into recent action, while the softball team was 9-5-1. Coaches told Times of San Diego that both programs are focused on postseason positioning, with softball coach Jerry Lerud saying the team’s goal is to win CIF and league.
Grossmont’s boys’ lacrosse team was 5-6 entering league play, with coach Ian Maunsell describing a highly competitive finish in the Grossmont Valley League. The girls’ lacrosse team was 10-1, led in scoring by freshman Morgan Symmons, while goalie Kaydon Casner had recorded 90 saves.
The boys’ tennis team finished the regular season 8-0 in league play and 11-6 overall, with key singles and doubles players heading into league tournament and CIF competition. Grossmont swimmers and divers also have league finals and CIF qualifying swims ahead.
On the track, Grossmont’s boys’ and girls’ teams were a combined 10-2 entering the week. Times of San Diego reported multiple school-record performances, including Miley Christenson in the shot put, Gabi Thomas in the 300-meter hurdles and pole vaulters Torin Sotelo and Will Smith.
For families across East County, the next few weeks will decide which local athletes and teams extend their seasons into CIF competition.
