Several food court businesses at Grossmont Center have been ordered to leave by Aug. 26 as redevelopment moves forward at the La Mesa shopping center, according to East County Magazine.\n\nEl Veganito, a vegan Mexican restaurant that has operated at Grossmont Center for nearly six years, is among the tenants affected. Owner Victor Gamboa told East County Magazine that food court tenants on month-to-month leases were notified during the second week of July that they must vacate.\n\nSeveral other food court restaurants confirmed to East County Magazine that they were also instructed to leave, though they declined to comment publicly. The real estate company overseeing the redevelopment did not respond to the publication's request for comment.\n\nGamboa said El Veganito has not secured a new location and is searching throughout San Diego County. The restaurant plans to remain open at Grossmont Center until Aug. 26, with hours listed as 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.\n\nThe closures come as Grossmont Center undergoes a larger transformation. East County Magazine previously reported that ownership plans to combine retail, restaurants and public gathering spaces while much of the center continues operating during phased construction. For Santee residents who shop and dine in La Mesa, the food court changes are another visible sign of that redevelopment.
