San Diego County pet owners have a one-day opportunity Wednesday to have their dogs or cats spayed or neutered at no cost or reduced cost as part of Spay/Neuter Awareness Month.
The San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition will offer free and low-cost procedures from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the San Diego Humane Society, 5500 Gaines St. in San Diego. The San Diego Humane Society received a $10,000 donation to cover 50 free appointments for families earning less than $100,000 per year. Once those slots are filled, additional appointments will be available at a reduced cost.
Surgeries will be performed by both the San Diego Humane Society and the county Department of Animal Services. Appointments must be booked in advance at sdhumane.org/spaymonth. Dog owners should be prepared to show proof of a current dog license and rabies vaccination, as both are required for dogs in participating jurisdictions.
Other organizations participating in Spay/Neuter Awareness Month through the coalition include Chula Vista Animal Services, Frosted Faces Foundation, PAWS of Coronado, Rancho Coastal Humane Society, and the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
