Bass Pro Shops plans to open its first San Diego County store at Grossmont Center in La Mesa, according to ABC 10News.

The retailer said the planned store will be 148,000 square feet and is expected to open in 2028. ABC 10News reported that the new location would be the company's sixth store in California.

The announcement adds another large tenant to Grossmont Center as the East County shopping center continues its redevelopment push. AMC Theatres previously announced plans to open there in 2027, replacing the former Reading Cinemas.

For Santee residents, the La Mesa project is close enough to affect regular East County shopping patterns without requiring a trip farther west or north. It also gives the region another large outdoor and sporting-goods destination as Grossmont Center works to bring more foot traffic back to the property.
