Two proposed housing projects in the Valle de Oro area drew a crowd of about 50 people to the Rancho San Diego Public Library on Sept. 1, according to East County Magazine.
The larger proposal, CalWest's Trellis project, would include 335 units on a 35-acre site near Jamacha Road and Lamp Airport Road. A separate Lennar proposal near Skyline Church on Campo Road would include 79 townhome-style units, with some units in each project designated as affordable housing.
Valle de Oro Planning Group Chair Yousef told attendees the projects are still in their earliest phase and that traffic and environmental studies have not yet been completed. Residents raised concerns about open space, water, traffic onto Campo Road and evacuation routes during wildfires.
For Santee residents, the proposals are another sign of how much housing pressure is moving through nearby East County communities. Even projects outside city limits can affect regional traffic, emergency planning and the broader housing market.
Yousef told the audience that a final decision could be years away and encouraged residents to stay involved as the projects move through the county review process. Source: East County Magazine.
