The Thorn Fire reached 100% containment Monday after burning 1,234 acres in rural southeastern San Diego County, City News Service reported via Patch. The fire started last Wednesday near the Buckthorn and Clover trails in the Live Oak Springs area of Boulevard.

Four structures were damaged or destroyed, though no further details were immediately available, according to the report. No injuries were reported.

The fast-moving fire initially spread south of Interstate 8 and north of Campo Road during a stretch of extreme heat. Temperatures topped 100 degrees Thursday, and traffic and local access were affected on I-8 before closures were lifted Friday afternoon, Patch reported.

The cause remains under investigation. The full-containment update closes out a fire week that brought evacuations, freeway disruption and a reminder of how quickly backcountry conditions can affect the rest of East County.

For Santee residents, the fire's location was well east of town, but I-8 remains a major regional route for travel, commuting and emergency access. Containment means crews can begin shifting resources back toward normal coverage as inland fire season continues.
