A Santee bar sold alcohol to a minor decoy, and one adult bought alcohol for a minor during recent underage alcohol enforcement operations, according to Patch. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office conducted the Aug. 13 checks with California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control agents and two minor decoys at businesses in Santee, Lakeside and Encinitas.

During the minor decoy operation, a decoy attempted to buy alcohol at six locations under deputy supervision. Patch reported that one Santee bar sold alcohol to the decoy.

In a separate shoulder tap operation, a minor decoy approached adults outside six liquor stores and asked them to buy alcohol after indicating they were underage. Deputies contacted 36 adults, and one adult purchased alcohol for the minor, officials said.

Providing alcohol to a minor carries a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service, according to the Sheriff's Office. For Santee residents, the operation is a reminder that late-summer enforcement can focus not only on businesses, but also on adults approached near stores.

The sheriff's office said the work was funded through a grant program aimed at reducing underage drinking and alcohol-related crimes. Anyone with information about businesses providing alcohol to minors can contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers or the sheriff's office non-emergency line, according to the Patch report.
