A new medieval-themed festival is set to debut in Santee next month, bringing jousting, archery, black powder demonstrations and period-style entertainment to the Historic Barn on Magnolia Avenue.
According to East County Magazine, Santee Summer Knights will run June 5-7 at the Historic Barn, 9200 Magnolia Ave. The event is being organized by a coalition of East County community service groups led by Santee Kiwanis, with proceeds intended to support local youth, family and senior programs.
The schedule includes an adults-only evening and ball from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 5, followed by public festivities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7. Organizers said the weekend will include two entertainment stages, a beer and wine garden, jousting, archery, black powder demonstrations and a Queen’s Quest.
The event is designed around a medieval theme spanning roughly the fifth through late 15th centuries, with participants and decor expected to match the period style. Animals are prohibited unless they are certified service animals or part of approved demonstrations, organizers said.
For Santee residents, the festival adds another large community event to a busy late-spring and early-summer calendar that already includes the Santee Street Fair and the city’s summer concert season. Organizers have also announced plans for a Yuletide Medieval Festival in December and a Medieval Valentine event in February 2027.
