The Santee School District Board of Education appointed new coordinators for special education and payroll services during its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15, according to a district recap posted Wednesday.
Shawna Benge was appointed coordinator of special education. The district said Benge is currently a project specialist and previously served students in Cajon Valley in administrative roles, including program specialist for student development and interim assistant principal.
Jennifer Caesar was appointed coordinator of payroll services. According to the district, Caesar is currently an accountant and has also worked as an accounting assistant, bookkeeper and office manager.
The board also approved submitting a waiver to the California Department of Education to reduce Extended School Year days. The district said the condensed schedule is intended to support more targeted instruction, improve student attendance flexibility, help retain staff who choose to work ESY and reduce summer impacts on school sites.
The meeting also included a Chet F. Harritt School presentation, public hearings on instructional materials funding and ESY days, appointments to board advisory committees, and updates to several board policies and bylaws. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Educational Resource Center, 9619 Cuyamaca St., and will also be live-streamed.
