Santee United Methodist Church has been named the 2026 Light of Pride Award recipient by San Diego Pride, according to a Times of San Diego report.
The award recognizes a religious organization, community or individual for affirming the LGBTQ+ faith community. The Rev. Jaime Pangman told Times of San Diego the church was grateful for the recognition and connected the honor to people coming together in support.
The church has been part of the Reconciling Ministries Network since 2021 and hosted the first Santee Pride Walk that same year, according to the report. The Pride Walk and Festival has since become a visible East County gathering with music, booths, vendors and community support.
San Diego Pride officials and community leaders quoted by Times of San Diego said the Santee church has helped create a public space for LGBTQ+ residents and allies in East County. The Light Up the Cathedral ceremony where the award is connected is scheduled during San Diego Pride Week.
For Santee residents, the recognition puts a local congregation in a countywide spotlight and reflects how community groups here are shaping conversations beyond city limits.
