SANTEE, Calif., April 20, 2026, Marty Smothermon, a longtime Santee Food Bank volunteer and leader, has been named District 4 Person of the Year, according to Patch.
Councilman Dustin Trotter surprised Smothermon, 80, with the recognition during last week's commodities distribution, where the food bank served 238 households, Patch reported. Smothermon told the outlet she was humbled by the honor.
Smothermon serves as site manager and board vice president for the Santee Food Bank. Patch reported that she began volunteering after retiring from a career as a cost analyst and has helped guide the organization through multiple moves and years of growth.
The food bank operates at 9715 Halberns Blvd. on the property of Carlton Hills Lutheran Church. It distributes food on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, plus a monthly commodities distribution on the third Tuesday, according to Patch.
