Santee's America 250 celebration moves onto front porches, yards and storefronts starting Friday, May 22, as the city opens its Patriotic Porch Contest for residents and businesses.
The contest runs through June 21 and invites Santee households and storefronts to decorate in red, white and blue. The city says entries will be reviewed by the Santee Workgroup for Arts & Culture based on creativity, patriotic theme and overall visual impact.
To enter, participants must submit at least one photo through the city's online form and make sure decorations are visible from the street. The city says the contest is limited to one entry per household or storefront, and decorations should be family-friendly and in good taste.
The winning entry will receive a free reserved canopy for Santee Salutes at Town Center Community Park East on Saturday, July 4. The city says the winner will be contacted the week of June 29.
The porch contest is part of Santee's broader America 250 programming, which also includes QR-code adventure activities around the city, a military and veteran mixer, the Heroes Golf Classic and expanded Independence Day festivities.
