Two Found Dead Inside Burning San Marcos Home; Homicide Detectives Called In

Two people were found dead inside a burning home in San Marcos late Saturday night, touching off a homicide investigation that had investigators working through the early morning hours.

Deputies from the San Marcos Patrol Station responded to the 900 block of Lacebark Street at approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday, March 28, after a reported structure fire. When they arrived, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. The San Marcos Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

While working inside the home, firefighters found two deceased individuals in a second-floor room. Because of the circumstances surrounding the deaths, the San Marcos Fire Department requested the Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit to conduct a full investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. Detectives from the Homicide Unit also responded to assist.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the identity of the victims and the cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
