San Diego County is preparing to open its 2026 claim period for more than $1.011 million in unclaimed money, according to the San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office.
The money could belong to about 2,200 potential claimants, including residents, businesses, nonprofits and other organizations, Patch reported. County Treasurer-Tax Collector Larry Cohen is expected to launch the claim period Thursday with an event called San Diego's Largest Lost & Found.
The claim period runs from Aug. 13 through Oct. 11. People can search the county's unclaimed money records to see whether they, a family member, a business or an organization may be owed money.
For Santee residents, the item is worth a quick check because the list is countywide and may include refunds or payments that never reached the intended recipient. Claims must be filed during the county's stated claim window.
