San Diego County health officials are warning residents not to eat recalled Sierra Nevada Graziers raw milk cheese after the products were linked to a multi-state Shiga toxin-producing E. coli outbreak, according to NBC 7 San Diego and City News Service.

NBC 7 reported that the recall includes Sierra Nevada Graziers medium cheddar, sharp cheddar, jalapeno jack and Monterey jack raw milk cheeses sold in 8-ounce and 16-ounce packages, plus 5-pound loaves sold to food service customers or wholesalers.

Health officials identified 13 cases across 10 states, including three in California. Two of the California cases were in San Diego County and involved children younger than 5, according to the report.

For Santee families, the practical guidance is simple: check refrigerators for the recalled products and throw them away. County officials said Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting, and severe cases can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome, a kidney-related complication.
