The American Red Cross is urging Santee residents to donate blood or platelets this fall to help maintain supplies for hospitals and emergencies, according to Patch.

Patch reported that the Red Cross has scheduled a Santee blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Civic Center, 10601 Magnolia Ave. The organization also listed blood drives across San Diego County.

The Red Cross said donors of all blood types are needed as the organization prepares for unpredictable fall weather and possible natural disasters. Maintaining a stable supply allows blood donations to be moved where hospitals need them, including during emergencies.

Patch reported that donors who give through Oct. 18 can receive a $15 e-gift card, while donors between Oct. 19 and Nov. 22 can receive up to $20 in gift cards and rewards.

Residents can make appointments or check eligibility at RedCrossBlood.org, through the Red Cross Blood Donor App or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
