California housing officials have opened a new round of disaster-recovery funding for homeowners and landlords whose properties were damaged by recent federally declared storms, including San Diego County’s January 2024 floods.
The ReCoverCA program, run by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, can help eligible applicants repair storm-damaged single-family homes, rebuild homes that cannot be repaired, replace certain manufactured or mobile homes, or reimburse qualifying repair and rebuilding costs already paid.
According to East County Magazine, applicants generally must have at least $8,000 in storm-related damage and meet ownership, occupancy, income and property requirements. Homeowners must have owned and lived in the home at the time of the disaster and still use it as their primary residence. Some landlords may qualify if they agree to rent to income-eligible households at affordable rates for five years.
For Santee and East County residents still dealing with flood damage from the 2023-24 storm cycle, the key detail is timing: applications are being accepted now, and the state says funding is limited. San Diego County is listed among the eligible areas for the program.
Residents can review eligibility and apply through the state’s ReCoverCA page. East County Magazine first reported the new funding round Saturday.
