Ramona Double Homicide Suspect Arrested, Sheriff Says

A 33-year-old Escondido man was arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were found with fatal injuries in Ramona Monday night, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies from the Ramona substation responded at about 8:44 p.m. Monday to a report of an assault with a firearm in the 600 block of 11th Street. Sheriff's officials said deputies found a man and a woman suffering from significant traumatic injuries.

The detained individual was identified by the Sheriff's Office as Ryan Proffitt of Escondido. He was arrested on two counts of murder under Penal Code section 187(a) and booked into San Diego Central Jail, according to the agency.

Sheriff's officials said the circumstances and motive remain under investigation. Based on information gathered so far, investigators said the incident appears isolated and that there is no known threat to the community.
