Lionel's Legacy, an East County rescue focused on senior dogs, is hosting its first Canine Carnival on Saturday in Lakeside, followed by an overnight slumber party and additional activities on Sunday morning. The nonprofit says the event will be held at 11937 Woodside Ave.
According to East County Magazine, the public carnival runs from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and includes music bingo, trivia, cornhole, paw painting and a photo booth. Most activities require a donation of $5 to $15, with proceeds supporting the rescue's work.
Organizers are also planning an "Adoptable Spotlight Hour" from 2 to 3 p.m., when visitors can meet senior dogs looking for homes and learn more about the adoption process. Registered participants can also stay overnight for the sleepover portion that continues into April 19.
The event gives East County animal lovers a chance to support a local rescue while meeting dogs that need permanent homes or foster care. For Santee and Lakeside residents, it is also another example of the kind of hyperlocal weekend event that often flies under the radar without community coverage.
Lionel's Legacy says more event details and registration information are available at lionelslegacy.org.
