A new East County arts group made its public debut in Lemon Grove this month, drawing more than 100 people to a Broadway celebration built around local music, visual art, spoken word and performance, according to East County Magazine.
The Aug. 15 βBe Artβ Reveal Celebration was hosted at Borrelli Design + Cabinetry and marked the launch of the Lemon Grove Arts Collective. East County Magazine reported that the event included piano music, jazz and rhythm and blues, dancing, spoken word, theater, an open gallery and work from multiple local artists and craftspeople.
Organizers described the effort as a movement to support local musicians, painters, theater performers and community-driven public art. The event also highlighted a broader push in Lemon Grove to use arts programming, pop-up galleries and public events to bring more life to the Broadway corridor.
For Santee and the rest of East County, the launch is another sign of smaller cities building their own cultural calendars rather than relying only on central San Diego events.
