Two people died early Sunday after a motorcycle veered off East Lakeview Road in Lakeside and hit a tree, according to Patch, citing the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 2:20 a.m. west of Adlai Road. Patch reported that a 41-year-old San Diego man was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson westbound with a 33-year-old El Cajon woman as a passenger when the motorcycle left the roadway.

Both riders were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Their names had not been released as of Patch's Monday report.

For Santee and East County residents, the crash is a local traffic safety story on a road corridor in nearby Lakeside. CHP investigators were still working to determine the cause, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
