Lakeside residents looking for a low-key weekend outing will have a sweet option Sunday, July 12, when the annual Lakeside Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social returns with a senior dog rescue tie-in.
The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the courtyard of the Lakeside Historical Society at 9906 Maine Ave., according to East County Magazine. Lionel’s Legacy Senior Dog Rescue, based nearby on Woodside Avenue, is expected to join the gathering with adoptable dogs and rescue information.
The event is co-sponsored by the Lakeside Historical Society and will include Miss Lakeside Royalty. The historical society preserves local heritage and maintains the historic Olde Community Church building, while Lionel’s Legacy focuses on foster and adoption programs for senior dogs.
For Santee and Lakeside families, the event offers a nearby Sunday stop that blends local history, summer treats and animal rescue outreach. East County Magazine also notes that Lionel’s Legacy holds a Senior Stroll from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the first Sunday of each month, meeting near the VFW at 12660 Lindo Lane in Lakeside.
