A new farmers market is scheduled to open in Lakeside on Sept. 10, bringing another weekly food and community event to East County, according to East County Magazine.
The Lakeside Farmers Market will run Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. at Equine Event Services, 11055 Moreno Ave. The market is expected to include fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, baked breads, specialty foods, craft beverages, a beer and wine garden, jewelry, handmade items and live music.
The Lakeside Chamber of Commerce is scheduled to hold a ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m. during the grand opening. Organizers describe the market as a way for residents to support sustainable agriculture and buy food grown by local farmers.
For Santee residents, the market is a short East County drive and gives families another midweek option beyond the usual grocery run. It also adds to the growing list of community-centered food events around Santee, Lakeside and La Mesa.
