One person was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle collision at a rural Lakeside road crossing near El Capitan Reservoir, according to Patch and the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 11 a.m. on El Monte Road at El Cajon Mountain Truck Trail. CHP said the victim died at the scene. The person's identity was not immediately released.

Authorities had not released additional details on the circumstances of the crash as of Patch's report.

For Santee and East County drivers, the location matters because El Monte Road is a key backcountry route near El Capitan Reservoir, recreational areas and rural neighborhoods east of Lakeside. Crashes there can affect access for residents, visitors and emergency responders.
