La Mesa is preparing for its first Pride event, with organizers targeting a date in June 2027 in the La Mesa Village area, according to ABC 10News.

The La Mesa City Council recently voted to provide $15,000 toward the event, which is expected to be hosted by Diversionary Theatre. ABC 10News reported that the event is planned for the area near Allison Avenue and Palm Avenue, though the final date is still being discussed.

Supporters told the council the event would give LGBTQ+ residents a local celebration and bring more foot traffic to La Mesa Village businesses. Local business owner Deanne Ross of Act II told ABC 10News she supported the event and saw it as another reason for people to visit the district's shops and restaurants.

For Santee and East County residents, the event would add another large community gathering to the region's summer calendar. Organizers are still working through details, so residents should watch for a final date and event plan as June 2027 gets closer.
