La Mesa will mark the nation's 250th birthday with a two-day community celebration June 12-13, according to East County Magazine.

The weekend starts Friday, June 12, with the summer's first Movie in the Park at sunset in the Harry Griffen Park Amphitheatre. The featured movie is Top Gun: Maverick, and free popcorn will be available for the first 500 attendees.

On Saturday, June 13, the 27th annual Flag Day Parade is scheduled to step off at 10 a.m. and march west through La Mesa Village. Free ice cream will be served afterward at Legacy Park, according to the report.

For Santee residents, the events are a nearby East County option as summer calendars fill with concerts, swim days and family activities. Santee Pulse will continue tracking local Independence Day and America 250 events as cities release details.
