A recurring water main break left parts of Julian without water for nearly two days, disrupting businesses in the East County mountain town and prompting renewed calls for a permanent fix, according to ABC 10News.
The outage affected multiple businesses, including Julian Market and Deli on Main Street. Deli manager Angela Barrios told the station the problem has happened repeatedly over the past several years and has forced restaurants and other businesses to close or spend extra money just to keep operating.
Barrios said water pipes in the area have broken seven times in the past five years. Julian’s Community Service District previously told ABC 10News the issue involves aging infrastructure and pipes that were installed incorrectly more than 50 years ago.
The latest break is especially difficult for a community that depends heavily on tourism. Business owners said prolonged outages can keep visitors away from restaurants and shops that rely on steady weekend and seasonal traffic.
ABC 10News reported that it contacted Julian’s Community Service District for information about the cause of the latest break and when full service would be restored.
