San Diego Humane Society has moved 54 rescued horses from the Villa Chardonnay case in Julian to Willow Glen Equestrian Centre in El Cajon, according to ABC 10News and City News Service. Four additional horses were moved to the Humane Society's Escondido campus for behavioral and medical care.

The animals were part of a large rescue effort that began after a San Diego Superior Court judge transferred care of 728 animals to the Humane Society in May. The group included horses, cats, dogs, livestock and other animals, according to the source report.

The horse relocation took place July 13-15 and was coordinated around the animals' safety and care needs. ABC 10News reported that Willow Glen is more accessible for staff, volunteers and potential adopters.

The Humane Society has said the horses are not available for public viewing, but people interested in adoption can contact the organization for more information. For East County animal advocates, the move brings a major piece of the recovery effort closer to El Cajon.
