Man Shot in Jamul Dies at Alpine Fire Station; Homicide Detectives Investigating

Sheriff deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 16000 block of Loose Creek Road in Jamul after receiving a call of a shooting. When deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station arrived, they found no victims at the scene.

Shortly after deputies arrived, the Alpine Fire Protection District notified the Sheriff's Office that a shooting victim had shown up at their station. Emergency personnel launched lifesaving efforts, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the fire station, according to Lt. Juan Marquez with the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies located and detained an adult male suspect in Jamul for questioning. The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

Sheriff's Homicide detectives have assumed responsibility for the case and are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances and motive behind the shooting.

"Based on the information obtained thus far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community," Lt. Marquez said.
