El Cajon Man Gets Life Without Parole for 2021 Bedroom Window Shooting

EL CAJON โ€” Davarold Jucynn Zeno, 25, was sentenced this week to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2021 murder of Jaylin Moore, a 23-year-old El Cajon man killed by gunfire through his bedroom window.

A jury found Zeno guilty of first-degree murder and upheld a special-circumstance allegation of lying in wait โ€” a finding that made him eligible for the maximum punishment. The verdict came after a prolonged investigation and prosecution that stretched nearly five years.

According to the El Cajon Police Department, Williams and Zeno opened fire on Moore's rental residence in the 800 block of South Magnolia Avenue in the early morning hours of Feb. 26, 2021. Moore's live-in girlfriend, who was not home at the time, returned around 11:30 a.m. that day and discovered his body.

Both Zeno and Williams were already in custody on unrelated charges when they were arrested in connection with Moore's killing approximately nine months after the shooting. Williams, who was convicted of the same charges, is scheduled to be sentenced later this year.

The case underscores the deliberate, ambush-style nature of the crime โ€” prosecutors argued the men had lain in wait outside Moore's home before executing the attack. For East County residents and the Moore family, Friday's sentencing closed one chapter of a case defined by premeditation and loss.
