At least one person was killed early Monday after a vehicle veered off westbound Interstate 8 in El Cajon, crashed and exploded into flames, according to ABC 10News.
The crash was reported at 3:28 a.m. on westbound I-8 just east of Mollison Avenue, ABC 10News reported, citing the California Highway Patrol. The person who reported the crash told CHP they heard an explosion and saw flames.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was called to the scene. ABC 10News reported that CHP's online log indicated two people and a dog may have been inside the vehicle.
The crash happened on a freeway corridor heavily used by Santee and East County commuters, especially for trips between Santee, El Cajon and central San Diego.
Authorities had not released additional details about the cause of the crash or the identity of the person killed by Monday afternoon.
