Possible public safety power shutoffs could affect several inland and East County communities from Friday through Monday as extreme heat increases energy demand and wildfire risk across San Diego County.
NBC 7 San Diego reported that San Diego Gas & Electric said shutoffs may occur from 5 a.m. Oct. 2 through 6 p.m. Oct. 5, potentially affecting about 35,006 customers. The utility listed communities that may be affected, including Alpine, Boulevard, Campo, Descanso, El Cajon, Jamul, Julian, Lakeside, Pine Valley, Poway and Ramona, along with several tribal communities.
Santee was not listed among the communities in NBC 7's report, but the possible shutoffs are close enough to matter for residents who work, travel or have family in nearby East County areas.
SDG&E's preparation tips for a possible public safety power shutoff are available on the utility's website. Residents in listed communities should check the utility's latest information as conditions develop.
