June is shaping up as a busy month for East County, with Santee Summer Knights, Santee's summer concert series and several nearby arts, music and family events on the calendar, according to East County Magazine.
The most local draw is Santee Summer Knights, a new medieval-themed festival scheduled for June 5-7 at the Historic Barn, 9200 Magnolia Ave. East County Magazine reported that the event is led by Santee Kiwanis and other community organizations and is designed to support local youth, family and senior programs.
The festival is expected to include jousting, archery, black powder demonstrations, entertainment stages, a beer and wine garden and themed programming. Organizers are asking participants and decor to stay within a medieval theme, and animals are prohibited unless they are certified service animals or part of approved demonstrations.
Santee residents also have the city's Summer Concert Series starting June 11 at Town Center Community Park East, with concerts continuing Thursday evenings through Aug. 13 except for the Fourth of July weekend. The broader East County lineup includes star parties at Mount Laguna Observatory, open farm tours in Ramona, Wild in the Country in Alpine, Cajon Cruise nights in El Cajon and La Mesa's summer classic car shows.
For families trying to plan ahead, the takeaway is simple: June has enough local programming to make several weekends out of staying in East County. Full event details and links are available through East County Magazine's June events roundup.
