Downtown El Cajon is adding new public seating, planters, refurbished banners and LED lighting as part of a revitalization effort focused on Main Street businesses, 10News reported. The work is being led by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, formerly known as the Downtown El Cajon Association.

Assistant District Manager Gabby Manocchio told 10News the improvements are meant to encourage people to stay downtown, visit locally owned shops and restaurants, and attend community events. The additions include tables and chairs intended to make the area feel more welcoming for everyday visitors.

East County resident Ruth Hollis told the station the changes make the area more inviting and could help draw more people into the community. Downtown leaders said more improvements are planned as part of the ongoing effort.

The story is centered in El Cajon, but it matters across East County because downtown business districts compete for the same weekend traffic, restaurant dollars and event crowds. A more active El Cajon core can help bring more attention to nearby local businesses and regional events.
