A brush fire burning in Ramona on Wednesday afternoon prompted evacuation orders, threatened structures and triggered a smoke advisory for parts of East San Diego County, according to NBC 7 San Diego and ABC 10News.

NBC 7 reported the Creelman Fire broke out near 310 Creelman Lane and had burned about 315 acres as firefighters worked the blaze at a critical rate of spread. ABC 10News, citing Cal Fire, reported the fire started around 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Creelman Lane and was affecting areas near San Diego Country Estates.

Evacuation orders and warnings were issued for several zones, with Ramona High School at 1401 Hanson Lane designated as a temporary evacuation point. Large animals were directed to the Ramona Rodeo at 421 Aqua Lane, according to the reports.

The fire is north of Santee, but the smoke advisory matters across East County, especially for residents with asthma, older adults, young children and anyone sensitive to poor air quality. Santee residents should monitor official county alerts and avoid unnecessary outdoor exertion if smoke drifts into their neighborhood.
