Evacuation orders and warnings for the Creelman Fire near Ramona have been lifted, according to CAL FIRE, after crews gained significant ground overnight on the East County wildfire.

CAL FIRE listed the fire at 347 acres and 60% containment as of Thursday afternoon, July 23. The agency said crews worked through the night to strengthen control lines with help from night-flying aircraft, and firefighters will continue mitigating hazards throughout the day.

The fire started Wednesday afternoon near Creelman Lane in Ramona and grew quickly enough to trigger evacuation orders, warnings and road closures. CAL FIRE reported 300 personnel assigned to the incident, along with 42 engines, two dozers, six water tenders and seven crews.

One structure was listed as destroyed in CAL FIRE's damage assessment. The cause remains under investigation, and the agency having jurisdiction is CAL FIRE's San Diego Unit.

For Santee and East County residents, the update is a reminder that fast-moving inland fires can affect traffic, air quality and evacuation planning well beyond the immediate burn area.
