San Diego County is preparing a roughly $2.08 million sidewalk and infrastructure project that will repair and replace sidewalks, curbs and gutters at 143 locations in unincorporated communities, according to East County Magazine.
The work is expected to begin this summer and finish by mid-2027. Locations listed by the county include Alpine, Borrego, Boulevard, Fallbrook, Lake Morena/Campo, Lakeside, Mountain Empire, Pine Valley and Spring Valley.
A portion of the project involves Old Highway 80, the historic backcountry route. Because of that designation, county officials said the work will follow federal standards for historic properties while still addressing safety and access needs.
The project is funded through the county Road Fund, which includes annual state funding and utility fees. County officials said the repairs are also meant to improve drainage, support walkable neighborhoods and bring targeted sites into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
For Santee residents, the work is outside city limits but close to common East County routes and nearby communities. The county said residents near construction areas will receive mailers, door hangers, social media updates and on-site signage before work begins.
