Residents of Casa de Oro, Santee's neighboring community to the west, will get their first look at engineering plans for a major commercial corridor makeover at a public workshop on Feb. 26.
San Diego County officials are holding the workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Rancho San Diego Library (11555 Via Rancho San Diego) to review design elements for the Campo Road Commercial Corridor Revitalization, a project backed by a $2.5 million Housing Acceleration Program grant from SANDAG.
The revitalization targets a 60-acre area centered on Campo Road between Rogers Road and Granada Avenue โ the commercial heart of Casa de Oro, which sits within the broader Valle de Oro Community Plan Area alongside Mount Helix and Rancho San Diego.
Planners hope to create a more cohesive village feel that balances business needs with public safety and residents' requests for better walkability. The county's Department of Public Works and Planning & Development Services are partnering to design improved road layouts, enhanced sidewalks, and safer crossings to reduce car dependency.
Stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide direct feedback on preliminary engineering plans before they are finalized. The project is part of a broader regional push to revitalize commercial corridors throughout East County with infrastructure that prioritizes pedestrian safety and community access.
